More Portas funding for arts project
A grant of £10,000 has been awarded to Bedford for an art campaign to promote the town centre.
BedfordBID, which helps promote businesses in the town centre and led on the original Portas application for £50,000, has helped the town win a further £10,000 of arts funding.
Christina Rowe, director of the Love Bedford and Bluecaps organisation which represents 575 businesses in the town centre said: “This is a worthwhile bonus for the town and one which will be delivered by local experts from Bedford Creative Arts.
“We hope the project will help Bedford to be seen as a place to visit for the arts.
“The £10,000 art project will help to put the spotlight on the town in what otherwise is a quiet time for traders.
“In the meantime the Portas Town Team will continue to work within the guidelines under which the original £50k was given, to boost activity.
“That £50,000 is ring-fenced in the BID accounts to ensure it is only used in accordance with the guidelines under which it was given.”
The Portas art project will be around the work of artist Bettina Furnee. Bettina’s work will be included in a wider week of events called the BCA Almanac Festival next month.
