Milwaukee Patty rows into swan country
A lifetime of musical training prepared her for release of new album
Patty Larkin has a unique approach to her music and in new record Watch the Sky she has created something that she can and should be really proud of.
Not least for the fact that Larkin wrote, produced, engineered and edited the release, a move so refreshingly unlike most female artists of the noughties.
Underpinning vocals and melody with a sound so raw and honestly beautiful, Larkin's music smacks of authenticity.
Patty Larkin grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin surrounded by music and arts she was always destined to be something amazing.
Descended from a long line of Irish-American singers and taletellers, her mother is a painter, her sisters both musicians.
She began classical piano studies aged seven, and found a lasting love and respect for pop and folk in the 1960s, teaching herself the guitar and experimenting with songwriting.
"I wanted to learn as much as I could about the instrument, how to read for it, how to play anything. I realised the enormity of the task, and somehow gave myself permission to climb the mountain. I'm still learning."
Patty Larkin will appear at the Bedford Star Rowing Club on Saturday, November 14.
Tickets cost 12 and can be bought on the door.
