Mayor sets sights on new store.

A town mayor has pledged to fight for a much-needed supermarket after a new site may become available

Central Bedfordshire Council has earmarked land west of Station Road and New Road in Sandy for mixed housing and employment development as part of its Draft Site Allocations Development Plan Document.

But town councillors believe that the site could be used for the development of a supermarket, which residents have cnmpaigned for.

And town mayor Geoff White says the council will fight planners if they

do not agree.

He said: "If the planners refuse we will fight them because we think this will be an ideal place for a new supermarket and it is obviously

what the people want.

"The people of Sandy have made it clear they want a supermarket and we will do everything to support them."
