Mayor launches Save Bedford Hospital campaign

Mayor of Bedford Dave Hodgson has launched a campaign to protect crucial health services at Bedford Hospital.

Mr Hodgson announced his campaign today (Friday, October 12) following the story on the front page of last week’s Times & Citizen.

He claims that the changes could mean “the end of Bedford Hospital as we know it” and wants to protect the status quo on services such as A&E, emergency surgery and maternity services.

He said: “These plans could mean the end of Bedford Hospital as we know it and I will fight to make sure that our hospital is not downgraded.

“Now is the time for us to come together and establish a united front across party political lines, to show that we will not stand by and let crucial services be removed or reduced at our local hospital.  The idea of having to travel further to other hospitals for crucial services will cause real concern for residents.

“We need to make clear now that we are not prepared for Bedford Hospital to lose out in this process, while there is still time to stop this threat in its tracks.

“I hope people will back this campaign by signing our petition and making clear that as a community we will not stand by and see Bedford Hospital downgraded.”

A full story will appear in this week’s Times & Citizen.
