Make the most of summer days out
Drop into Tourist Information for ideas of places to visit and take advantage of discounted ticket offers
The summer holidays are in full swing but don't despair if you are at a loss as the Tourist Information Centre in St Paul's Square has many ideas for places to visit.
The centre is open seven days a week until the end of August – from 9am to 4.30pm on Mondays to Saturdays and 10am to 2pm on Sundays, so why not pop along and take advantage of some of special offer tickets?
For example, the ongoing train offer is still available. An adult off-peak day return ticket to London or Brighton on First Capital Connect trains is just 12.50, while a group ticket priced at 30 will allow up to four adults to travel together. Up to four children can travel on each of these tickets for 2 each.
London Underground travel cards for Zones 1-2 at 5.30 per adult or for Zones 1-4 at 5.90 per adult are also available. Child underground
tickets, which can only be purchased with an adult ticket, cost 2 each.
For those who want to see the sights of the capital, what better way to travel than by open- top bus? Vouchers are available for the Original Tour sightseeing bus, costing 22 for adults and 12 for children, and include unlimited 24-hour hop-on, hop-off travel plus a free river cruise.
The bus visits all the main attractions around London and, conveniently, leaves from just outside London Bridge station which can be reached by direct train from Bedford. Vouchers also make an ideal gift as they are not dated and, once purchased, can be used at any time.
If you have an interest in exotic animals, a visit to London or Whipsnade Zoo is a must. Tickets are available at Tourist Information for both attractions priced at 2 cheaper than the gate cost.
Fancy a day-trip?
Then take the opportunity to visit the coast or a list of numerous other
attractions offered by one of the area's leading coach travel companies.
Membership of the Youth Hostels Association is also available and priced at 9.95 for under 26s, 15.95 for those aged 26 and over and 22.95 for joint/family membership. Alternatively, stay closer to home by joining a free guided walk around Bedford which take place on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings and selected Thursday afternoons.
Tourist Information stocks a wide range of local gifts and souvenirs including honey, ceramics and Bedfordshire lace as well as local history books, T-shirts and even kites. You can even pick up a copy of the Bedford Calendar for 2009 which is priced at 5.50 and shows a
selection of picturesque scenes of the town throughout the seasons.
And don't forget the centre stock a huge range of free literature about attractions and places to visit across the UK. So make a point of visiting this week – staff look forward to seeing you.
