Harrold Pit Run.

The 32nd Harrold Pit Run will be held on Saturday, April 26 when hundreds are expected to support the popular event.

The pit run offers runners of all ages the opportunity to test themselves against the best local runners.

The event also caters for fun-runners and those who wish to wear fancy dress.

To make the day complete, there will be stalls and attractions on the village green as well as a beer tent and a live band.

The green is the start and finish of the races.

One of the organisers Tina Pritchett said: “It’s a great village and community event.

“Lots of local people get involved such as parents, families and teachers. I would say: come along - there’s something for everyone. And it’s a lovely village to visit.”

The pit run has been held since 1983 and is intended to provide a great day out for villagers and visitors alike, and help raise money for village charities. The event encompasses four races from a short children’s race up to a fully marshalled three-mile race around the village of Harrold and the surrounding countryside.

This year, to encourage a greater emphasis on fund raising, the organisers have created two new awards.

There will be a shield for the most money raised for the main race, sponsored by Bridgmans, and a shield for the most money raised for any of the school races, sponsored by “Chelsea” Dave.

All competitors who finish the race earn a medal for their efforts and all race winners will receive a gold medal – with silver and bronze for most categories, including all school races.

The first boy and the first girl in each of the school races will receive shields which they can keep, kindly provided by the respective schools.

There are two team awards, best fancy dress, sponsored by Ad Hoc, and the fastest aggregate time, sponsored by the Calvados Society.
