Luton named and shamed by airport delays data

'Departure hold-ups are the worst in Europe'

Luton Airport keeps its passengers waiting longer than any other European airport, according to a new report.

Four of the country's airports including Luton, Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow also feature in the European top 10 for departure delays.

But it was Luton who scored the the highest hold-ups on scheduled take off times - keeping their passengers waiting an average of 17.8 minutes in 2006, 26 per cent higher than in 2005.

It also showed that overall delays at all airports have increased by 15 per cent since 2002, nearly 19 minutes per flight.
