A tree surgeon is set to compete in the lumberjack world championships this week.

Chris Pratt, who lives in Eversholt, will be part of the Great Britain team in the world championships taking place on Norway on Friday.

The 36-year-old took up the sport as just a hobby several years ago, but he has taken the lumberjack sport world by storm and will be taking part in his first international competition, run by Stihl Timbersport Series.

He will be joining four other members in the GB team in the championships where they will be taking part in a relay, competing a number of different lumberjack disciplines, including chainsawing and chopping wood.

Chris, who runs tree surgery business Marston Vale Tree Care, said: “I’m feeling very positive about it.

“We’ve been doing a lot of training and I’ve got to know all the other members of the team really well. I’m really looking forward to it and feeling quite positive and confident.

“It’s like a relay-type event, we will all be doing different disciplines. Mine is the stock saw where I use a chainsaw to cut into a log. Badically the team that completes all the disciplines in the quickest time is the winner.”

Chris qualified for the world championships last month when he came first in the Stock Saw discipline and was ranked sixth overall.

He took up the lumberjack sport three years ago when he saw a local group at the annual Woodworks Festival at the Forest of Marston Vale.

He added: “I do a lot of this type of this thing in my job and I was looking for something physical to get into.

“It’s quite a unique sport and I liked the fact that it incorporated aspects of my job. I thought it would be something I would enjoy and be good at.

“I had always thought about competiung nationally, but I didn’t actaully think it would happen. It;s amazing that I’m now competing in the bworld championships. I’m really excited.”

Chris and the rest of the team fly out on Wednesday, and the championships will be taking place on Friday.
