The first of the new season of popular guided walks around Bedford is held this weekend.
These walks are led by qualified members of the Bedford Association of Tour Guides, on behalf of Bedford Borough Council, take place every Sunday leaving the Tourist Information Centre in St Paul’s Square at 11am.
This first walk, on May 11, looks at the person whom many consider to be the first citizen of our town – John Bunyan.
The 1630s and 40s were troubled times in the history of our country. Civil war loomed and the subsequent fighting pitted brother against brother and father against son, and Bedford was not excused from the conflict.
Join the walk and you will see where Bunyan’s own spiritual adviser lived, where Bunyan was baptized and also the view that some scholars consider was the scene that he was gazing upon when he referred to the ‘celestial city’ in Pilgrims Progress.
Pre-booking is essential. Tickets £3 for adults and £1.50 for children. Call 01234 718112.
