Let's crawl - to the ugly bug ball
Get the schools summer holidays off to a flying start at the Forest of Marston Vale
Get the summer holidays off to a flying start at the Forest of Marston Vale's Ugly Bug Ball – a fun day brimming with creepy crawly activities for all the family.
"If your kids are barmy for beetles, love ladybirds or dig dragonflies, then the Ugly Bug Ball is the place to be for some good old-
fashioned family fun," said Alexis Pym, Forest of Marston Vale event organiser.
"Summertime in the Vale is naturally blooming, buzzing and bursting with bug life – so what better way to mark the start of the summer holidays than an event to celebrate all the mini-beasts our children adore."
The Ugly Bug fancy dress parade will be a highlight of the day – giving all who take part the chance to flutter, wiggle and hop their way to some great prizes.
More prizes are up for grabs in the 'hunt the bug' treasure trail, bug drawing and mural making events. There is also pond dipping, mini-beast hunting, dragonfly and butterfly walks and face-painting.
The lively and popular ten-piece band Top Banana will be entertaining children and adults alike with their upbeat covers of popular songs.
Matthew the Magician will also be performing throughout the day, trying his hand at turning balloons into bugs. And leading storytelling company, StoryRoots, will thrill young audiences with captivating tales of butterflies, spiders, ants and bees.
To get there, simply board the special 'Bug Train' with London Midland, which is running a special service to the event. Visitors can pick up the train at Bedford or Bletchley (or other stations inbetween) to Millbrook.
From there it is a pleasant one-mile, 15-minute stroll to the Forest Centre, on signed, surfaced footpaths through the park.
Why not use the London Midland GroupSave ticket to buy four cheap day returns for the price of two? Up to four children can travel with the group for just 1 each.
A timetable is at www.marstonvale.org/events or call 08456 024277.
