AN award-winning barber has been crowned the winner of an international barber competition in New York.
Kade Burgess, who runs Kade Kutz in Midland Road, battled it out against nine other barbers throughout the world, before he took the winning title in the Battle Of The Barbers US Master Barber Competition 2012 at the International Hair and Beauty Show in New York
23-year-old Kade took part in the international contest last weekend, and wowed judges with his headshave of a dragon style, using colours and razors, which he completed in the tough time-frame of one hour.
Kade said: “I’m really pleased to have won, there was some tough competition there, so it was a bit of a shock.
“I couldn’t believe it when I heard my name being called out. I went over there thinking it would be great to get second or third, but I was really shocked to come first.
“You think that because the competition is being held in another country, they wouldn’t give first place to an outsider, so I wasn’t expecting it at all.”
He added: There was well over a thousand people in the building, so the atmosphere was buzzing. I really enjoyed it.”
The contest was held over two days, and Kade attended just one day and impressed with his dragon style.
He won 300 dollars, and a pair of clippers, along with the prestigious title.
Kade has previously won the UK King Barber competition in 2010 and 2011, and been a finalist for Barber Of The Year 2010 and 2011 at the Blackbeauty Awards.
Kade is next set to compete in June in Las Vegas.
