Jubilee party fun in Bedford Borough

FROM kites to picnics there is sure to be something that tickles your fancy this Jubilee weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday Bedford’s International Kite Festival takes place in Russell Park where kite flyers from across the world will show their skills with a royal theme.

And on Sunday Queens Park is staging a Jubilee picnic at All Saints Church in Westbourne Road from 11.30am and a family fin day will take place at Bedford Park which includes free face painting and a kids fun fair.

For museum fans the Higgins Art Gallery and Museum will stage a Big Victorian Jubilee Picnic on their lawn. And just across the road music lovers can enjoy Bedford Town Band from 3pm til 5pm at Mill Meadows bandstand.

And if you like your music a little bit heavier check out Monday’s battle of the bands line-up in Russell Park.

On Tuesday the park will host an It’s A Knock Out style competition as well as a teddy bears’ picnic.

In Mid Beds Ampthill is holding its Jubilee celebrations on Monday at Ampthill Park with a big picnic, live music and entertainment.

And for medieval fans the Mansion House at Shuttleworth near Biggleswade will be holding family fun days on Monday and Tuesday.

In Bedford and Central Beds council chiefs have approved plans to close a number of roads so that residents can get into the spirit by holding their own street parties.

They include the following:

Saturday: Churchville Road, Buckfast Avenue, Sidney Road, Waterloo Road, Dudley Street, The Elms in Kempston and Ampthill Road in Silsoe.

Sunday: St Minver Road and The Furlong, Bedford,

School Lane, Roxton, Spring lane, Yelden, Wigram Close, Elstow, Woodland Drive, Bromham.

Hampden Close, Flitwick, Harter Avenue, Cranfield, St Marys Close, Marston Moretaine, Higher Rads End to Witts End, Eversholt.

Monday: Deacon Avenue, Kempston, Dunster Gardens, Irwin Road, Princes Street, St Augustine’s Road, Park Road West, Gold Street, Riseley and Naylor Avenue, Kempston and a special event on the Jubilee playing fields in Wilstead, Longcroft Lane, Marston Moretaine, Aragon Road, Ampthill, and the Slade in Clophill.

Tuesday:High View, Purbeck Close and Brookfield Road, Bedford plus Cedar Close and Fallowfield in Ampthill - and Church Road, Wilstead.
