Jack-pot as bowls club remains open

A bowls club has been saved from closure at Bedford Borough Council stepped in.

Kempston Park Indoor Bowls Club has been struggling over the past few years, and in early 2013 there was a chance the club would fold,

However, Bedford Borough Council have worked hard with a group of dedicated bowlers (members of the former Kempston Indoor Bowls Club) to help club stay open.

And next month it will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary.

Councillor Doug McMurdo, portfolio holder for leisure and culture at Bedford Borough Council, said: “The club has had an excellent reputation over the years and offers facilities that are appreciated by many.

“It has been transformed by the efforts of many volunteers from the club and working in association with the council.

“We are confident for the future of the club, and very much look forward to celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2014.”

The bowling club opened over two decades ago and at its re-opening last October it was re-named as the Kempston Park Indoor Bowls Club.

The club has eight rinks, bar area, viewing facility behind the rinks, kitchen and dining area, as well as ample parking. It is also host to regional and national competitions.
