Italian church to open doors to kids
Youth mass, and a number of other kid-friendly events are just some of the ways that Bedford’s St Francesca Cabrini Italian church is opening up to young people.
F.A.I.T.H, an organisation linked closely to the church in Woburn Road, are looking to attract more young people to the church to boost the congregation.
In 2014 the church will celebrate its 50th anniversary and a holy week of festivities and activities are planned to mark the event.
But before that church leaders are looking to introduce a youth mass at least once a month, with live music and singing.
A spokesman for the committee said: “We ask that all Italians, the associations, clubs and individuals come together to reunite as a community in the place our parents and grandparents built for us almost 50 years ago.
“We can assure you it will not do any harm to bring the word of God into our lives also. Let us demonstrate that we are proud to be Italian at all times and not just during the Fifa World Cup.”
As part of the project the church will run a weekly youth club for children aged six to 13-years old, and discos for under 13s and teenagers will also be arranged.
The spokesman added: “We have many ideas and initiatives to keep members entertained and raise the necessary funds to finance these events and the upkeep of the church building.
“Some of these initiatives comprise Play Station and computer games, pool and snooker, table football, Italian card games and other tournaments to keep members amused.”
