Investment in Olympians of the future

Olympic table tennis stars of the future could emerge from Bedford, after a community centre received funding for a new coach.
Church Lane Community Centre, in Bedford has received short term funding from The Harpur Trust to launch and run a junior table tennis club on a Tuesday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm for children aged 6 to under 14.
The club had seen good attendance, but after funding dried up it was forced to close, but following the cash injection table tennis coaching can resume.
Gloria Jakes, chairman of the centre, said: “Many of the youngster’s parents are unable to afford to send their children on a weekly basis so The Harpur Trust’s offer to provide funding over a whole year means we will be able to help so many more families in the future.”
