A prison nurse saved an inmate’s life on Monday after he tried to commit suicide.

At around 6.30pm the East Anglian Air Ambulance landed in the exercise yard of the prison, in St Loyes Street after reports that an inmate had tried to take his own life.

The inmate was saved following the quick thinking of a prison nurse who was credited by staff for saving his life.

After receiving treatment at the scene the prisoner was taken to hospital to receive further care.
