Hundreds go along to Whipsnade Zoo for Flog It!

Crowds turn up armed with collectables

The popular BBC2 show Flog It! attracted hundreds of wannabe sellers while crews filmed a series at the zoo.

Many of the visitors queued for hours for their chance to get expert valuers to cast their eye over their goods to see if they were suitable for auctioning.

One of the day's highlights belonged to Kensworth man Jonathan Dick. The 80-year-old was delighted after hearing his rocking horse, dating back to 1850s, was worth around 2,000.

Mr Dick said he bought the toy, named Tubby, 48 years ago but would not let on how much he paid for the historic piece.

And it proved to be a fruitful day for Paul Ruff, 40, of Waterlow Road, Dunstable, who was told several items he bought along were worth hundreds of pounds.

Among them was a carriage clock valued at 600 and a sterling silver tray with a price tag of 595.

He said: "I am well pleased. I honestly did not think anything was worth more than between 50 and 100."

All of the chosen pieces from the day's filming will be sold at the Tring Market Auction in July.

The show which is presented by Paul Martin is due to air on BBC2 in six months' time.
