REMEMBERING the Holocaust will be the order of the day on Friday across Bedford Borough.

The first part of this year’s commemoration event will take place around the Anne Frank Tree in Russell Park and will be attended by local dignitaries and community leaders.

A second commemoration will then take place at Borough Hall at 1.30pm in the council chamber.

The theme for this year’s event is Speak Up Speak Out and the second event will concentrate on how to think about rights, responsibility and duty and how to create a better future.

Every year in Bedford and across the world people remember the Holocaust, the murder of approximately six million Jews by the Nazi regime.

Holocaust Memorial Day provides the opportunity for everyone to learn the lessons from the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and in the subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur.
