High jumpers hit new heights

Record-breaking season for Bedford & County AC

High jumpers from Bedford & County AC reached new heights with a record-breaking season.

A personal best jump of 2.05m helped Scott Johnson rank joint first in the U17 men's UK rankings, having previously broken the Luton county schools record with a height of 2.01m.

Both of these heights saw the Hastingbury Upper School student break the U17 Bedford & County record of 2.00m this season.

Meanwhile, Martin Danebrega ranked second in the UK U13 boys with a personal best of 1.61m, which broke the Bedford & County record of 1.55m. The Newnham Middle School pupil also won the SEAA Intercounties Championships with a stunning performance barely two months after taking up the sport.

A personal best jump of 1.66m was enough for Hannah Frith to place seventh in the U15 girls UK standings, having won the county schools competitions with an earlier leap of 1.61m.

Longsands College pupil Michael Grabarz, meanwhile, ranked 16th in the UK U17s men's section after winning the Cambridgeshire County Schools with the same height.
