A very special student who passed the Olympic flame on to Lewis Hamilton during the Torch Relay is the latest Pride nominee.

Hollie Baxter, 17, was born with Rubenstein Taybi Syndrome, which means she is wheelchair–bound for life.

She was nominated for the Pride Awards by her aunt, Nicki Rowley, who says Hollie puts a smile on everybody’s face.

Nicki said: “The reason I nominated her is because she was an Olympic torchbearer in Luton and she is an inspiration. She is very severely disabled but she is just such a happy character.

“There was so much publicity around her when she carried the torch, particularly because she was handing over to Lewis. It meant so much to her and to the family. She has a very low mental age and she wouldn’t have a clue who Lewis was but the fact everyone was there cheering for her, she must have felt like the queen of the world that day. To make her feel special is so important and to win a Pride Award would mean a lot.”

Hollie lives in Round Green in Luton.

She will join all the other Pride nominees at a ceremony in November hosted by Eastenders star Nitin Gantra, who plays postman Masood in the hit soap.

There’s still time to nominate, so if you know someone who has made you feel proud to be from Bedfordshire, from an excellent carer, to a child who has shown courage, nominate them today.
