Health provider to launch new activity centre
A NEW activity co-ordinator service is being launched at Bedford Hospital next week.
South Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (SEPT), which oversees health services across Bedfordshire, will be launching the new service next Friday (July 27) between 10am and noon at Weller Wing, a unit that cares for people suffering with mental health problems.
The new development is part of SEPT’s continued enhancement to in-patient settings and will provide a trust-wide programme of activities to support the improvement of the physical health and wellbeing of patients.
The introduction to community sports and exercise based activities will also aid recovery once patients return home.
Demonstrations of some of the activities being offered will be showcased along with samples of healthy snacks and drinks.
SEPT chief executive Dr Patrick Geoghegan said “The great thing about these resources are that over time they provide a visual record of a patients physical health.
“Visual cues with action points have been incorporated so if a patient’s health begins to deteriorate, clinical staff can literally see the signs and take immediate action.
“The new resources are the result of a larger project to improve the wellbeing of the people accessing SEPT’s services.
“The new service will involve a baseline assessment of physical health, the auditing of inpatient records, physical assessments, observation and individual action plans for patients and assist further training of the co-ordinators.
“This will help to address any physical healthcare issues or problems which often go undetected and hence untreated and will allow SEPT to enhance the patient experience even more to assist with long term recovery.”
