Have your say on Riverside North development

The boss at the centre of Bedford’s Riverside North Development joked this week that he hopes he gets of out of the forthcoming public exhibition alive.

Colin McQueston is a director at Coplan Estates, the firm who want to build the leisure complex which has been championed by Bedford Borough Council.

Together with partners Denne, Coplan Estates will hold a public exhibition today, Friday and Saturday at the Harpur Suite, so that residents can have their say on the development which has divided opinion.

Mr McQueston, who has overall responsibility for delivering the new scheme, said: “I hope to get out of there alive, we have some idea of what the thoughts are and I am under no illusion that I am going to get 100 per cent support for the scheme because there are many different views.”

He added: “I think people do like the option to come and meet the people who have proposed the scheme and I hope that we can get general support.”

In April this year Coplan Estates held their first exhibition to gather views on early stage designs for the complex which is set to feature shops, a cinema and a hotel.

And Mr McQueston claims that residents views have been taken into consideration to create more detailed plans which will be on display this week.

He said: “The April plans were very much the initial staging for the site. They didn’t show the buildings and how they would look and fit in with the rest of the town.

“People will now get to look at what we are sugesting the architectural approach to be.”

He added: “It is quite an important site within Bedford and I think it is important that people are aware of what is being proposed.”
