Hats off to Easter fun - colourful bonnets lead the way

Easter is just around the corner and the pupils in year 1 at Pilgrims Pre-Preparatory School in Bedford lead the way with their own colourful bonnets.

Here’s a round-up of some events taking place over the holidays.

> Hula Animal Rescue is holding an Easter Eggstravaganza on Sunday, April 13, at the South Midlands Animal Sanctuary, Glebe Farm, Salford Road, Aspley Guise, when the fun and games for children will be an Easter Egg Hunt and Easter bonnet competition.

There will be bargains in the bazaar, pet bed shed and meet the animals needing a new home. Refreshments available and dogs are welcome. Admission is £2 for adults and accompanied children free. Parking is free and all proceeeds from the event go to the care and welfare of Hula’s Animals.

> The Art Centre and Gallery in Howard Street, Bedford, will be holding a charity cake sale on Saturday, April 19 from 10am until 2pm. Goodies will have been made entirely by centre members of staff with all proceeds going to the Sue Ryder Hospice. There will also be Easter card making and Easter children’s crowns to decorate. You can also buy a paper-mache and decorate it for free.

> Frosts Garden Centre at Willington is bringing back all the thrills and spills of the big top over the Easter holidays from Tuesday April 15 until Saturday, April 19 when John Lawson’s Human Circus visits with a spectacular range of performances.

There will also be an Easter Hunt for kids at the centre where they will be greeted by the Easter Bunny and receive a chocolate prize, and they can also take part in egg decorating. For children of all ages, the fun days run until Friday, April 18.

> You can enter Central Beds Council’s I Love Central competition over Easter where you can tell them what you love about living in the borough. Prizes include an all expenses paid birthday party at one of the six leisure centres. Get an entry form at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/families or pick one up at your local library or children’s centre.

> Homewares store Dunelm, based at London Road, Bedford, is holding a children’s colouring competition to raise money for their charity partner, Barnardo’s. Under 12’s can enter Dunelm’s competition from April 14 - 28. Pick up a colouring sheet in store for £1 entry and return to any Dunelm store by April 28. All proceeds go to Barnardo’s.
