Hastingsbury scores ‘tycoon’ grant
A great business idea has lead to cash from a TV dragon for students at Hastingsbury Business and Enterprise College.
Thousands of students from over 800 schools each set up their own business in a bid to win £1,000 in investment from Peter Jones, a businessman who is part of the panel on Dragon’s Den.
And as part of the Tycoon In Schools initiative the team were the only project in Bedfordshire to scoop the funding needed to keep their business afloat.
Hastingsbury’s project Pop Up Events Management scored a contract with the Mary Seacole Housing Association to put on an evening meal and fundraising event, and bagged the investment from Peter in the process.
Sarah Robinson, Hastingsbury’s enterprise manager who supported students with the project, said: “A couple of months ago I held assemblies and gave out notices informing our students about the Tycoon In Schools initiative and asking volunteers from those youngsters who might be interested.
“The response was great an, in fact, there were eight students whose enthusiasm was absolutely outstanding, it is these very young people who not form our Pop Up Events management.”
