Hannah a cut above the rest
Dominant Kerr defeats teammate to take silver
Hannah Kerr produced a near faultless performance to take silver at the Eastern Region U16 Fencing Championships.
The Mark Rutherford School pupil had little trouble during the group stages, but was drawn against Great Britain teammate Genevieve Mullins in the knockouts. Kerr dominated the fight and won 15-7.
The final produced a thrilling fight where Kerr came up against a German girl from Brentwood School. The pair were tied at 10-10 before Kerr's opponent pulled away to win 15-11.
This weekend the 14-year-old travels to Tauber, Germany, for her second outing with the GB U17 Team, and Kerr will be looking to improve on her 124th placed finish in Slovakia.
Meanwhile, a quartet of fighters from Bedford Fencing Club put in some admirable performances for Great Britain at the European Junior International Fencing series in Kenten, Germany.
Lisle Erskine-Naylor, Jordan Schofield, Ben Lucas and Chris Lawrence were accompanied by coaches Peter Wright and Darren Tee, and all four competed in the U17 sabre event that attracted 143 entrants from across Europe.
Erskine-Naylor, 15, placed 33rd after winning 17 of his 19 bouts, Jordan Schofield, 15, was 56th and Ben Lucas 67th.
Lawrence, who secured an outstanding eight place in the UK National Championships in October, was drawn against some very strong German and Hungarian opposition and will fight in this age group for another two years.
Grant Lawrence also competed, achieving an impressive tenth place in the preliminary U12 event.
