Hammer attacker robs man in Bedford town centre

A 37-year-old man was attacked with a hammer and robbed in Bedford on Friday afternoon, July 25.

The incident took place at around 1.20pm as the victim was walking along an alleyway which connects Maitland Street and Battison Street. The offender – who had followed the victim – hit the man to the back of the head with a hammer before hitting him a second time to the arm. The offender then stole cash and a mobile phone before fleeing the area.

The victim made his way to Bedford train station where he was meeting his sister and the police were called. The victim was taken to hospital where he required stitches to his head and treatment to bruising to his head and arm.

Detective Constable Amanda Durrant, who is investigating the robbery, would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack and may have seen the offender before or after the incident.

The offender is described as being a black man, in his mid-30s, around 6ft 4ins tall and of average build.
