Gritting crews out in force on roads
Crews have showed true grit to keep Beds moving this week.
Central Bedfordshire Council says they have ploughs on standby in case there is a heavy snowfall this week, and more than a dozen crews have been out gritting the roads.
With weather forecasters predicting the current cold snap to last up to the weekend, up to 18 crews have been out gritting the county’s main roads to keep Central Bedfordshire moving.
Councillor Brian Spurr executive member for sustainable communities services said: “Our gritting crews are ready and prepared to work around the clock to keep this county moving should the weather get worse.”
So far crews have been out 29 times since November gritting up to 50 per cent of the roads.
Mr Spurr added: “If there is a heavy snowfall, we now have ploughs on standby.
