Goldington Post Office to close for major revamp

Goldington Post Office will be closing for a revamp in early autumn for a major revamp with plans to open for longer hours.

The facility will shut on Wednesday, September 3 at 5.30pm for the refurbishment to take place before re-opening at 1pm on Monday, September 15.

The modernisation programme will see extended opening hours which will stretch to an extra 62 hours of service a week as doors will open from 6am and close at 10pm Monday to Friday.

Customers will also be able to use it on a weekend with Saturday and Sunday opening times ranging from 7am to 9pm.

The service will be provided from two modern screened positions and an open-plan dual counter where the Post Office terminal will sit alongside the retail till.

Once the project is completed customers will be able to make bill payments, conduct their banking needs, collect benefits and travel money.

They will also be able to access the full range of Post Office and mails services, including international parcels, Special Delivery, Local Collect and home shopping returns.

Kevin Shepherd, area manager said: “We know how important Post Office services are to residents in Bedford and we are confident this vibrant modern Post Office at the heart of the community will be popular.

The modernisation is part of a “ major Government investment programme that is enabling us to continue investing in the Post Office network and to map out a bold growth strategy through to the end of the decade.”

A Post Office spokesman said: “The move is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.”

The Government has committed £2bn investment for the Post Office network and in 2013 the Government announced a further £640m investment to run from 2015 to 2018.

The project will see 8,000 branches modernised with additional investment in over 3,000 community and outreach branches.

During the period Goldington Road Post Office is closed customers are advised to use nearby branches at as Queens Drive Post Office, 108-112 Queens Drive, Bedford, MK41 9BS and Avon Drive Post Office, 18 Avon Drive, Bedford, MK41 7AF.
