Bedford Gallery Quire will be taking part in the Melchbourne 750th Charter Fair on Sunday, July 13 with short performances at 3pm and at 4.15pm in St Mary Magdalene Church.
The Quire perform music of the West Gallery period - from the early 18th century to around the middle of the 19th century - when bands of singers and instrumentalists would provide the music for social occasions and church services.
The singers and players will perform music recreated from original manuscripts, in costume and using mainly authentic instruments, and will set the music in context with historically accurate narrative.
The afternoon is a celebration of 750 years of holding an annual ‘fair’, a right given to Melchbourne in 1264 by Henry III. Attractions include archery, morris dancing, birds of prey, a flower festival, stalls and dancing to the tunes of Glenn Miller and others in the grounds of the magnificent Melchbourne House, from 1pm until 5pm. Admission is £1, children under 12 free. visit www.bedfordgalleryquire.org.uk
