Fundraising ball
Hair salon owner raises £10,500 at event for leukaemia charity
A FAMILY have raised 10,500 at a ball held in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
Anna Baio, who runs the Headlines hair salon in Shefford High Street, organised the event on Saturday to mark the charity's 50th anniversary, and the five years her son Domenic has been in remission for.
She also wanted to thank all of her friends and relatives who were so supportive during Domenic's illness.
Domenic, 14, was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of seven but won his battle with the disease after treatment at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
Anna and her husband Giuseppe welcomed 250 guests at the Sharnbrook Hotel for the ball, which included a three-course meal, live Italian singers, an auction and a fundraising raffle.
The charity offered the family, who live in Bedford, much-needed assistance and support while Domenic was ill, and Anna, 43, said she wanted to give something back.
