Friends remember ‘lovely’ Patricia
Neighbours have paid tribute to an elderly woman whose body was found in the ornamental lake at Bedford Park last week.
The body of 85-year-old Patricia Bell was found by a passer-by at around 7.45am last Wednesday, where the area was cordoned off by Bedfordshire Police.
This week neighbours have described her a “lovely lady” who was very independent.
A keen historian Patricia, of St Edmond Road, Bedford, was a former county archivist and had had several history books published.
She was also an honorary member of the Bedfordshire Family History Society.
One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “She was a lovely lady. She was 85, but she walked around ever so well.
“She had a fall a few years ago I think, so she used a zimmer frame to help her get about, but she was ever so independent.
“We always offered to get her shopping for her, but she would always say ‘Why do you need to do that when I have Budgens down the road?’.”
Patricia lived on her own, but had a sister and niece who visited her regularly.
It is believed that Patricia suffered with a form of dementia, but the circumstances surrounding her death are currently unknown.
The neighbour added: “She absolutely loved Bedford Park, I would often see her walkng around with her trolley. We’ve lived here for 12 years and she has always been so friendly.
“We only saw her a couple of days before she died and she had just been to Bedford Park and she said how lovely it was.
“It’s a big shock for everyone in the road.”
