Free parking to help breast cancer charity

A week of free car parking near Flitwick rail station could benefit a breast cancer charity if generous commuters donate their parking fee.

Central Bedfordshire Council is to carry out improvement works to the Steppingley Road Car Park (formerly Unit A, Steppingley Road), which serves Flitwick Rail station.

Next week there will be no ticket machines and the council is encouraging commuters to donate their car parking fee to Breakthrough Breast Cancer, as part of the chairman, Councillor Caroline Maudlin’s, fundraising for her nominated charity.

Several pink-sashed volunteers will be in the car park, complete with pink buckets, each day between 7am and 9am to collect any willingly given donations for the charity.

The council, which owns the land, is taking over full control of the car park from 31 March.

Resurfacing works, new ticket machines and a flat charge for parking of £5 per day between Monday and Friday and £1 on weekend days will help to improve the car park.
