On behalf of businesses in the town centre, BedfordBID has sponsored a range of outdoor theatre and cinema in July and August.

Timed to suit families during the school holidays, some of the events are free or are at discounted rates thanks to the support of the Business Improvement District (BID).

Love Bedford Outdoor Theatre Festival in July consists of six individual theatrical performances taking place over four days on Castle Mound, Embankment, Bedford on Tuesday, July 22 until Friday, July 25.

These will include George’s Marvellous Medicine, The Pirates of Penzance, The Tempest, Treasure Island.

All these shows will all have been specifically designed to be performed in outdoor spaces by professional actors. All shows offer a guaranteed performance in the case of wet weather.

A series of four Pop-Up Outdoor Cinema screenings will be taking place on Thursday evenings during August at the Archaeological Park, Castle Quay, Bedford.

All the screenings are completely free to attend and take place in front of the Castle Quay restaurants.

The films will start just after sunset on each evening - approximately 8pm. First come first served for ground seating areas.

The films are:

7th Aug - The Goonies (12)

14th Aug - Brief Encounter (PG)

21st Aug – Hard Day’s Night (U) [OXJAM Fundraiser]

28th Aug – Labyrinth (U)
