Four jailed for cable theft

Men hoped to sell telephone cable as scrap metal

Four men have been jailed for ripping telephone cables out of the ground that they hoped to sell as scrap metal.

Albert Smith, 34, and Jesse Smith, 45, from the travellers' site in Common Road, Potton, were jailed for two years and two-and-a-half years respectively.

John Smith, 34, and Levy Smith, 20, from a travellers' site in Kempston Hardwick, were given two-year and 15-month sentences respectively.

The four pleaded guilty at Luton Crown Court to causing 17,000 worth of damage in Little Staughton in the early hours of March 4 this year.
