Flying high with the high-flyers

AIR cadets have got their summer off to a flying start after a day at Royal Air Force Wittering in Cambridgeshire.

The members of the 134 (Bedford) Squadron took to the skies in high-performance gliders with the 4 Counties Gliding Club.

Each of the cadets experienced two launches in a two-seat Ask 21 glider, and were able to take the controls as they flew above and around the airfield.

The cadets who were waiting for their turn to fly were kept busy on the ground preparing aircraft for flight, attaching the launch cable and assisting with takeoffs and landings.

Warrant Officer Paul Taylor said: “As an air-minded squadron, opportunities like these are extremely important to our cadets. They are gaining some valuable flying experience and developing their airmanship skills.

“A number of the cadets are already showing a natural aptitude with their flying and we hope to hone their skills further.”
