Fire safety volunteers help community

The first batch of community fire safety volunteers have been welcomed by Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service.

Members of the first group of volunteers had their commitment and achievement recognised by the fire service at a special ceremony where they were presented with a special certificate of achievement.

One of the volunteers is 28--year-old Rose Donaghey of Great Barford who said it was always her dream of doing community work.

Rose who works full time at a construction firm in Luton, gives up her times at weekends to carry out home safety fire checks, take part in roadshows, and promote fire safety across Bedfordshire.

She said: "I know it sounds cheesy, but it is true in my case, I have always wanted to work in the community and I have always been interested in emergency services.

"So my friend suggested I look on this Government website, which advertises volunteer posts and I saw the community fire safety volunteer on there.

"So I applied, I got in and the rest is history really. I am really loving it so far, I have done several roadshows and I am really enjoying it."
