Forget TV’s Man Versus Food, because The Embankment pub in Bedford has unveiled an eating challenge of epic proportions.
This week teammates from the Bedford Blues Rugby Club went down to the pub and hotel to try and beat the challenge, a 5kg burger which weighs the same as an average three-month-old baby.
The 8lbs of minced meat inside the burger alone weighs the same as a Yorkshire terrier dog, and none of the team could manage the epic challenge despite their best efforts.
Kelly McKenzie, who is the general manager at The Embankment, said: “Unfortunately none of the boys managed to get through it but a few of them got through half of it which is quite a good effort.
“It is our version of Man Versus Food, so we got some of the Bedford Blues boys, who have fairly big appetites to come forward. I don’t think it’s possible but anyone who does think they can manage it should come forward.”
She added: “We are going to keep rolling with it so anyone who wants to take on the challenge needs to come forth.
“We want to get the whole community involved, a few people who saw the boys’s attempt on Monday think they can do it so it’s started a bit of camaraderie already.”
The pub has launched the challenge to coincide with their Monday gourmet burger night. Anyone who wants to take on the mammoth challenge must page £35 for the privilege, but if they manage to defeat the meat they will get their meal for free, as well as their name on the Embankment’s wall of fame.
To book your date with the challenge call the team, who need to time to prepare the special meal, on 01234 261332.
