A family-run cafe is set to be decorated to both celebrate Diwali and remember a man who passed away last year.
Bluberi Cafe, a frozen yoghurt cafe in the High Street, decorated its premises this week to celebrate the annual Hindu celebration of light today (Sunday).
The celebratory day fell on the same day this year as the birthday of the owner’s late father-in-law Thani Ram.
The cafe opened last month in memory to Thani who died suddenly last year due to a heart problem.
Owner James Jandu opened the cafe with his wife Gabriella. He said: “We worked out last year that this year his birthday would fall on Diwali, which he was really excited about. He said ‘the whole world would be celebrating his birthday’.”
Bluberi will be putting up lights both inside and out from Thursday evening to Sunday to celebrate the Diwali celebration. It is inviting the public to come in and help celebrate Thani’s birthday.
James added: “He would have been in his element here. He loved food and cooking so he would have absolutely loved this place, we wouldn’t have been able to get rid of him.”
