False bomb scare on plane bound for Luton Airport

Wizz Air jet grounded in Romania

A Wizz Air jet bound for Luton Airport from Romania this morning, March 17, was forced to make a U-turn after a bomb scare, which turned out to be a false alarm.

A spokeswoman for Wizz Air told Luton Today: "The crew of the Timisoara-Luton flight has received a bomb threat notification from ATC shortly after takeoff which turned out to be an erroneous information.

"It was an alert related to another airline's flight from Timisoara. The mistake was later admitted by the Romanian authorities."

Despite of the false alert, the aircraft returned back to Timisoara and a thorough security check was carried out. The aircraft was found to be clear.

Passengers were evacuated from the plane, and have been given food and drink while they wait for the later departure.

The flight, W6703 from Timisoara, which was scheduled to land in Luton at 7.20am, is now listed on the Luton Airport website as delayed until 1.15pm.

Another plane is being flown to Timisoara to collect the passengers bound for Luton today. Delays of around seven hours are expected on the route.
