EXCLUSIVE: Nadine: ‘I won’t skydive out of respect’

Mid Bedfordshire MP Nadine Dorries will not skydive into the jungle as part of her appearance on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here because of a family tragedy 30 years ago.

The mum-of-three, who has been suspended from the Conservative Party over her appearance on the show, lost her second cousin Charlie in a skydiving accident.

And Nadine says that she will not take the leap, which is the traditional way for the contestants to enter the jungle, out of respect for the family member.

She said: “He was a nurses’ tutor in Liverpool and I was a nurse. He did a parachute jump and had a heart attack on the way down.

“He was still alive when he got down and was telling the paramedics what to do.”

She added: “I have been asked to do parachute jumps many times. but each time I just think of Charlie and think ‘No, I can’t’.”

Speaking last week, Nadine told how she has been preparing to take part in some of the more challenging jungle challenges.

She said: “I couldn’t pick up a cockroach and eat it, but at home I have been picking up all the spiders with my bare hands and making friends with them to practice.”

She added: “I’m afraid of anything that scurries or runs and is small.

“The House Of Commons is over-run with mice and I couldn’t say how many times I’ve been seen standing on a chair in the House Of Commons.”
