Elderly woman hospitalised after walking stick is struck by a car

An elderly woman suffered a broken hip after a car struck her friend’s walking stick on Sunday (December 2).

The incident happened as the woman was leaving church in Church Street, Westoning, with her friend at 5.30pm.

Both pensioners were walking towards their vehicles when a dark coloured car drove past, striking the friend’s walking stick and causing the elderly woman to move away quickly.

Due to the speed and proximity of the vehicle she fell to the floor and the following day she attended hospital where it was confirmed that she had broken her hip.

PC David Charlton is keen to trace the car driver of the car that left the scene without stopping or anyone who can help identify this person.

Anyone with information relating to this investigation can contact PC Charlton, in confidence, at Bedfordshire Police on 101, or text information to 07786 200011.

Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
