Eight people have been arrested this morning (Tuesday) in a series of raids by Bedfordshire Police in connection with drug dealing.

Officers executed eight search warrants at around 5am this morning, at houses in various parts of Bedford, resulting in seven men and one woman being brought into custody.

They were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs and money laundering.

Suspected class A drugs and cash have been seized, along with other paraphernalia consistent with drug dealing and money laundering.

Superintendant Linda Kelly, commander of the arrest stages of the operation, said: “A considerable amount of the information we use to target those involved in drugs dealing comes from the public.

“Sometimes we are not able to act on that information immediately, but over the course of time we can build up a picture of a criminal, their associates and movements, so that operations like today’s are a success.”

At this stage, all suspects remain in custody and will be questioned during the course of the day.

Residents living in the immediate areas of the addresses entered will see a uniformed policing presence by officers for the next few hours as they complete their search operation.

Police community support officers (PCSOs) with local knowledge will also be visible in the area to provide information and reassurance for residents.

The arrests are the culmination of an operation which has been running for some weeks, and represents another strike against organised crime groups in the county.

If anyone has any information relating to drug crime they can contact officers directly on the police non-emergency number 101, or text the police control room directly on 07786 200011.
