Dorothy’s centenary celebration
b12-859 Dorothy Jones of Annandale Lodge, Bedford, celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family some of whom travelled from Dubai to be there. Dorothy with her two nieces, great nephew and great great niece.
A SPRIGHTLY centenarian who loved being a housewife celebrated her birthday with family on Thursday.
Dorothy Jones, who also likes to be known as Doll, hosted a party for family and friends, some who had travelled from as far away as Dubai at the Annandale Lodge care home in Bedford.
Her actual birthday was on Wednesday, August 1, but the party was held for a day so that family who live in Dubai could gatecrash the party as a special surprise.
Dorothy was born in 1912, the same year as British codebreaker Alan Turing and American folk musician Woody Guthrie.
She lived all her life in Rushden, Northants and loved being a housewife and enjoying holidays in Great Yarmouth.
Dorothy has lived at Annandale Lodge since 2008 where she is visited regularly by her niece.
Home manager Lesley Jakes, said: “Annandale Lodge have put on some good parties for their centenarians, this being the third one in the last 12 months.”
She added: “Doll did not have any children but her niece, who visits regularly, has been like a daughter to her.
“She also has family in America who unfortunately can’t be with her but send their best wishes.”
