Do you recognise chip snatchers?

editorial image

Two young lads were robbed of their chips and valuables as they walked close to Ampthill road last night.

The boys aged 14 and 16 had been to the chip shop opposite Offa Road at the town end of Ampthill Road and were walking back at about 11pm.

A white man, who had been in the chip shop in front of the boys, then appeared from behind them, along with a black friend and tried to engage them in conversation.

However, the two boys walked on, so the two men began pushing the victims around and the black man grabbed the 16 year old boy in a headlock. He managed to free himself but the white man then told the boy to give him everything he had, and empty his pockets.

The boy had to hand over his iPod Nano, Nokia mobile phone, £12 change from his purchase and even the two dinners he had bought. Meanwhile, the 14 year old was told to jump up and down but nothing was stolen from him.

Both offenders then walked off and the white man threatened to kill them if they told anyone.

The white man was aged around 40, scruffy, about 5ft 5ins tall, skinny with a boney, gaunt face and wearing a grey tracksuit. The black man was aged around 25, about 6ft tall, muscular and wearing jeans with a large–buttoned baseball top.

Anyone who recognises the descriptions, or perhaps was in the area at the time and saw these two men near the chip shop should call Det Con Luke Moore, at Greyfriars CID, on 01234 275011. You can also text the police control room direct on 07786 200011, or call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. You do not have to give your name but you could still receive a cash reward.
