Did you share taxi with cabbie assault yobs?

A TAXI driver was repeatedly punched in the face after he picked up two men and a woman in Bedford on Sunday May 13.

And police want to speak to the woman, who was dropped off in Denmark Street before the incident took place, in the hope that she will be able to identify the two men she was travelling with.

After the driver did the Denmark Street drop off at 1.30am he asked the men for their fare and was repeatedly punched in the face causing him to suffer a bloody nose.

Despite being injured the driver returned both men back to the taxi rank in Mill Street and the men, who described as all white and in their twenties, fled without paying the fare.

The 58-year-old victim did not require hospital treatment, but investigating officer PC Jon Woodruff is keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the group get into the taxi or the men fleeing on their return.

He said: “The female in the group may not of known what her associates did after she left the taxi and if that is the case I would urge her to have the courage to contact us as soon as possible.

“I would like to hear from the female who shared the taxi cab home to Denmark Street in Bedford, we need her assistance to help us catch the people who did this.”

Anyone with any information can contact PC Woodruff at Greyfriars Police Station on 01234 275152 , the non-emergency number 101, or text information to 07786 200011. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
