Daredevil gran to take to the skies

60-year-old proves you're never too old to skydive!

A daredevil granny is set to jump from a plane to help raise cash for a children's charity.

Jackie Bayford, 60, of The Grove in Biggleswade, will be taking part in a tandem skydive to raise money for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation.

The feat will see her and a trained professional leap from a height of two miles, to freefall at around 150 miles per hour before the parachute is opened.

And although she says she is petrified at the prospect, she was inspired to go a step further in her fundraising efforts because her own granddaughter suffers from a liver condition, which may mean she needs a liver transplant in the future.

She said: "My family says you're mad, don't do it mum, but anything to make money for the charity.

"I've done a walk for charity and I thought I'd do something different. Skydiving stood out for me.

"My granddaughter has a liver problem, she's only two.

"They all need money and if I can get some to help them and go that little bit further and help get a little bit more I'll be happy.

"I'll be happy once I've landed on my two feet, I'm petrified, absolutely petrified."

The dive is a far cry from her previous fundraising activities, which have included sponsored walks for a cancer charity and animal welfare.

Mrs Bayford, who is hoping to raise at least 400, is waiting to hear back from the charity to set a date for her act of derring-do.
