Royal Navy officer receives visit from Prime Minister

A Royal Navy officer met the Prime Minister on board the fleet's flagship HMS Ark Royal.

Daniel Mills, 24, of Potton, is serving on board the strike carrier, as it leads a series of multinational exercises in the north and west Atlantic.

And he was one of the lucky few to meet Prime Minister David Cameron while he toured Ark Royal in Halifax, Canada as part of the centennial of the Canadian navy celebrations.

Daniel, who joined the Navy in 2007, is an air engineer technician on board the 22,000 tonne aircraft carrier, which involves radio and radar maintenance for the embarked aircraft, as well as being a member of the weapons loading team.

He said: "It's really good to be involved with a large deployment like this one – this kind of exercise really does bring with it a proper battle rhythm, if you like, and allows us to get a good view of how we would operate in a real-life situation, as well as how we interact with other navies."
