Cyclist snatches necklace from woman walking along The Slipe

The Slipe. Bedford.

The Slipe. Bedford.

A woman had a necklace snatched from her neck while walking along The Slipe on with her baby in a pram.

The incident happened on Tuesday, July 22 at about 2.15pm between the double bridges over the footpath and the new footbridge that goes over to the Bedford Road, as she walked towards Bedford

from Queen’s Park.

The woman could hear a bicycle coming up behind her and stepped to one side to let it

through.

However the rider then snatched the necklace – made of Russian gold – from her neck – nearly spinning her and the pram into the water as he did so.

The necklace broke and the man carried it off with him on the bike.

Investigating officer Gary Maxey would like to hear from anyone who saw this or was down on the footpath at the time.

He can be reached through the 24 hour police non-emergency number 101, or text the force control room direct on 07786 200011. Alternatively, call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. You do not have to give your name and no-one will know you called.
