Cycleway for new bypass

Plans to build a cycleway along the new section of the Great Western Bypass are set to be approved by planning chiefs.

Bedford Borough Council’s planning committee will discuss proposals to amend the red line boundary of the bypass to facilitate the construction of a cycleway along The Baulk close to Gold Lane, Biddenham.

According to a report by council officers residents of the area have said that while the revised cycleway may increased passing cycle traffic, they are broadly in favour of this because the plans would increase cyclist safety.

The residents also requested a cycle gate be provided to ensure that no vehicle traffic could go onto The Baulk.
