County schools team named
Sharnbrook's Josh Steele to captain the boys
Bedfordshire's team for the English Schools Athletics Championships at Gateshead on July 7 and 8 was announced this week.
Manager Dennis Johnson named the maximum number of athletes to take part in the two-day competition, selecting Josh Steele of Sharnbrook School, as the boys' captain, while Jade Christie, of Harlington, leads out the girls.
The junior girls team sees Lucy James, of Dame Alice Harpur School, contesting the 200m, Hannah Goodwin, of Hastingsbury Upper School, will race in the 800m, and Hollie McGurk, also of Hastingsbury, will run in the 1,500m.
Meanwhile, on the field, Hannah Frith, of Harrowden Middle School, will be taking part in the high jump and Jonelle Johnson-Turner, of Lealands, will be contesting the long jump.
The intermediate girls line up with Bedford High School's Emma Clark in the high jump, Wootton's Amie Richardson in the long jump, Louise Wright, of Redborne, in the triple jump and Sharnbrook's Rachel Bennett in the discus.
For the senior girls Samuel Whitbread Community College's Alice Middleton races in the 400m, while Jade Christie, of Harlington, will contest the triple jump and Tanya Bromilow, of Cedars, the pole vault.
Deji Tobias, of Rushmoor School, lines up for the junior boys in the 100m and Putteridge's Matt Bachini runs in the 800m, while Redborne's Carl Ramsay and John Bunyan's Tashan Campbell contest the long jump.
In the intermediate boys category Max Sturgess, of Sharnbrook, will run in the 400m, Cardinal Newman's Daniel Chorley the 1,500m, Samuel Whitbread's Ryan Parker the 3,000m and Sharnbrook's Ciaran Craig the 100m hurdles.
On the field, Sharnbrook supply both athletes, Simon Jones in the high jump and Michael Puplampu the triple jump.
The senior boys team rounds off Bedfordshire's squad, with Bedford College's Nigel Levine running in the 200m and Luton VI Form's Nathaniel Quigley the 1,500m, while Josh Steele, of Sharnbrook, contests the hammer.
